What does it mean to have low self-esteem?
When you ask most people, they would say self-esteem is about confidence and that is partially accurate.
What most people don’t know is that self-esteem is not about what you see on the outside but rather how you feel about yourself on the inside.
We can define self-esteem as how much you respect and appreciate yourself regardless of the external circumstances.
True appreciation comes from understanding and accepting yourself with all your mistakes and shortcomings.
For a long time, I suffered from ADHD, anxiety, and depression. I was shameful for not being normal. I would say things like “I’m clumsy, I’m easily distracted, I forget everything, I’m not organized…” and for that, I’m not good enough.
I thought of myself as a failure for years.
My self-esteem was down because of these thought patterns.
But one day I made a decision. One day I said I am more than enough as who I am.
I embraced my so-called shortcomings, my life completely changed.
I decided to stop blaming myself and others.
I changed my I am… statements that I have told myself for years.
I am not a failure, my failures are the path to success.

I am not forgetful, I only remember important things.
I am not clumsy, I am funny and entertaining.
I am not impulsive, I am quick to reply and honest with people.
